Protel library ?
Protel library ?
(OP)
Im working with a schematic and board file in protel (dxp2004). I need to maintain the board structure that I already have( stray capacitances for an RF section in the layout have been compensated for). I now need to add some components to the existing schematic without rerouting the part of the board thats already laid out. Can this be done ?
Or would it be better to define a library component schematic,a "black box" , and maintain the existing layout in the footprint. Or is there is better way ?
Thanks,
zkt

RE: Protel library ?
Perhaps Protel has this facility too.
RE: Protel library ?
This should work for both schematic and PCB. It is mainly a case of keeping track of component designators. If you screw up, it will print out the usual hundreds of error messages, but with care it can save a lot of time.
All the self checking features of Protel should keep you out of trouble.
RE: Protel library ?
I just add the components to the schematic, while in the schematic select the "Design" menu "Update PCB Document such-n-such". Let Protel drop the components at the edge of the PCB, then drag and drop where wanted.
There are a lot of setup features in Protel I'm not familiar with. Maybe you've got some automatic update box checked somewhere.
Also, there is a Altium:Protel forum in the "Engineering Computer Programs" group of Eng-Tips.
RE: Protel library ?
sounds like it entirely doable
