I did a few maximum vibrated density tests using the ASTM procedure on the cohesionless soils ranging from well sorted to well graded but the results seemed low to varialbe degrees if compared with the Proctor values for the same samples. Usually the proctor values go well with the field density readings from a nuke gauge.

Does anyone else have any similar experiences? If yes, how did you have this problem solved?

I have run numerous comparisons between a one-point Proctor D698 energy on dry sand to the min and max density values. I have found good correlation between a one-point D698 dry density and 70 percent relative density.  See article in October 1996 ASCE geotechnical journal
