Permeability test of -200mm rockfill

Permeability test of -200mm rockfill

Permeability test of -200mm rockfill

(OP)
Hi all,

I´m facing the issue of trying to determine the permeability coefficient of -200mm rockfill!!?!? The gradation parameters are:

D100 = 200mm
D50  = 50mm
D10  = 7mm

This material is compacted with 16 metric tons vibratory compactors (6 passes). Does anybody have suggestions or knowledge of test being carried out on this coarse material.
Any comments would be appreciated.

cheers,
Throstur

RE: Permeability test of -200mm rockfill

Throstur,

Just based on the gradation (D10 = 7mm = ~0.25 inch), I would expect that the permeability would be relatively high, even after compaction.

There might be some few government or academic labs that could conduct permeability tests on the material, but they would need to be very specialized in order to afford the serious capital investment implied for such an apparatus.

USBR or USACE might have some research available. You would have to check with them, though.

Good Luck!

I agree that it il probably take all the water you can give it. If you really need to test it, field test is probably your best bet. Out of couriosity why do you ned to know?
