thermal measurements

(OP)
A colleague of mine is trying to measure the heat dispersive effectiveness of a new multilayer cooking utensil. It has layers of stainless, aluminum and copper. They want to do infrared analysis to see how evenly heated the cooking surface is. Does anyone know a laboratory, preferably in the Northeast US, who can do such measurements?

RE: thermal measurements

To mcguire,
There is growing use of IR video systems for plant maintenance thermal surveys.  Portable units can locate overheated mechanical power transmission components (bearings, gear boxes, seals), electrical cable and insulator incipient failures,  thermal insulation internal damage, and hot gas leaks.  Your colleague may not need a lab service, but might be able to rent equipment or have a contractor perform services at his site.
One vendor advertised in Plant Services magazine,
www.infraredsolutions.com ,
has demonstration on webpage and offers free on-site demo.  Measurement capability to 1200 degC should be within the needs of your colleague.  They probably could provide references to IR contractors.
Two other vendors
www.mikroninst.com
www.raytek.com
have extensive product lines.  Globalspec.com lists many others under 'thermal imagers'. Finally,
www.snellinspections.com
www.snellinfrared.com
is service advertiser in the magazine with history to 1983.

RE: thermal measurements

What I get from the past threads is that member ko99 is in the business and generaly does study for heat sinks. The link is www.ecoolingbiz.com

Mcguire, the "Measurement & control instrumentation engineering Forum" may have more suggestions for your friend.
