I need a test that my warehouse people can do in the plant to distinguish between galvanized and galvanneal. We use copper sulfate to identify zinc coatings, but it doesn't tell between galvanized and galvanneal very well. Is there another way to test for galvanneal that can be done on the plant floor?

Thanks,
Vince

We use visual inspection with pretty good success.

Galvaneal sheets are dull gray in appearance and have no spangle.

I would contact your supplier if you require chem testing or another more sufficient need.

Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. And scratch where it itches.

I'd have to agree with aamoroso, the visual difference is fairly distinct. Provide them with visual aid panels for comparison if they have trouble.

Proper material tagging and lot control helps, though your application may not specifically require it.

For a nominal cost you could have your materials service center run a coloured line (red, blue, green) down the center or ink-jet the ASTM# every foot or so.
