steels 1022 and 10B22

(OP)
Hello,

What is the difference in the material properties for 1022 and 10B22 steels? I understand that 10B22 should have higher hardness.

Do you know if I can look up material properties on the Internet?

Thank you.
Have a great day!

RE: steels 1022 and 10B22

1022 and 10B22 are both low carbon steels. Tehy have limited alloying and contain a nominal .22%WT Carbon. They are normally not very hardenable. However the 10B22 has an addition of at least .005%wt Boron. this alloying element effectivel increases the hardenability of the steel.

RE: steels 1022 and 10B22

engin,

The hardness of the raw material (hot-rolled wire rod or cold-drawn wire) will not be different between grade 1022 and 10B22.  As NickE mentioned, the addition of boron only affects hardenability, meaning the depth below the surface that can be quenched to martensite.  Both alloys will quench to a similar surface hardness, but 10B22 will quench to a greater hardness below the surface.
