RE: Trneding

Another approach to trend is time series analysis. The method finds a degree of autocorrelation of a series and a fraction of moving averaging.A combination of both allows you good forecasting. This sort of analysis is embodied in a program package Statistica; there was a good individual program as a part of D.Brockwell's book Time series, theory and methods. The math behind is quite complex; an introductory reading would be the Time series analysis, forecasting and control by G.E.P.Box ang G.M. Jenkins, Holden Day.
