Line perpendicular to spline ?

Line perpendicular to spline ?

Line perpendicular to spline ?

is there anyway to create a line perpendicular to a spline that can be moved along the spline ?

I got there by creating a line that is tangent to the spline and than creating another line perp. to that line. This works, but if you want to modify the spline after - especially removing definig points of the spline you get an error message.

Is there an easier and better way ?

RE: Line perpendicular to spline ?

Not knowing exactly what your doing with this, here is a limited suggestion;
1) attach a datum perpendicular to your spline using point on curve
2) extrude a sheet from your spline in the direction of the required curve plane
3) create a intersect curve using your sheet and datum

RE: Line perpendicular to spline ?

Hi Shawn,

thanks for the advice. The datum is a nice thing that I havent tried before and works nicely to conect the line perp. to the datum / spline.

But the problems I have with the error message remain.

Still waiting for an answer from the UG support.

RE: Line perpendicular to spline ?

Hi Sebw,

I was just wondering why your were trying to remove the defining points of the spline.

Surely they are what you are using to define your parametric sketch?

As for using a curve tangent to the spline then constructing and curve perpendicular to this seems work Ok for me.  I used a dimension from one of the sketch axis to control the position along the spline.

Let me know how you go?

Best Regards

RE: Line perpendicular to spline ?

Hi Dave,

yes basicly you are right, why removing the points. My problem is that these spline are quite long - 2450mm and longer. If you move these points to much - for ex for a new piece, the splines really do not shape nicely as if you design it from scratch. So removing a point sometimes and placing it again in the same spline makes it look better.

But it looks like we solved the general problem.

We conected the line to the curve by insert a project in the sketch. So far we did not get this error message anymore.

Using the datums is very nice because they can be moved tangent along the spline - exactly what I was looking for -

Just for info - I design Surf/Windsurfboards with UG and every board is different from another so I try to keep the main design as flexible as possible.

Best regards,
