Does anyone out there have any experience using foam concrete with roadway or railroad embankments? I'm looking for some information on the methodology for evaluating the embankment. Is there any "codified" procedure out there, such as from ACI or PCA?

Don't know for sure - but why don't you contact Elastizel in Ann Arbor? They've done a lot of this. I used them a couple of times in Canada with good success.

We are using foam concrete for some embankments and behind bridge abutments in Maryland. No real design method. Just seleting the grade concrete to get a unit weight and compressive strength. I think we are using 40 pcf 120 psi. Its is one up from the lightest Elastizel produces.
But for the ebmankments we have been treating it as soil or a surcharge on the soft ground and estimating our settlement and stability from that. We have also been placing it behind abutments to keep lateral pressures down.

Our company has experience in constructing embankments for highway and railway embankments. Our website is ajvoton.com.
