hi my name is nick im 19 and currently at my job having loads of problems.

mechanical desktop r4 is what im on, and i have used it in the past and i thought i was okay at it but i guess i just am not good.

i have to make fire escape plans for my plant, which consists of multiple buildings. my plan was to use the regular site plan-with all the lots, grass, etc.-and put the seperate buildings in multiple layout(paper)spaces. the problem is i can't get a section of the model space into the paper space. its pretty much all or nothing at all. ive tried using scenes multiple times, and even cut and paste, but nothing works. and even if the scenes did work, i can't make it into a rectangle, or window. instead i have to pick the lines i want in it and sometimes the line is too long. for example i want half the parking lot but the border of the lot extends way too far to the right.

thanks to whoever takes the time to even read this, im in my 6th hour of trying to find an answer.

Nick-
I have been using AuotCAD and MDT for several years. (since r12 was released). And I am not a big fan of using paper space. For the plant layouts I have done in the past, and one I am currently working on. I prefer to create the layouts in model space and only use layers to control the results. There are several benefits to this method.

It may not be the most efficient manner possible for your application, but I have always been able to provide superior layouts. Compared to other companies and/or other employees I have seen do similiar layouts.

I am not clear what exactly you need to present. But it seems to me if you use layers, then you can use just the basic principles of ACAD. How are you buliding layouts prepared now? Is the layout all lines and text?

What do you need to present to your company? Printed layouts?

Give me some detail, and I will share some more info on how I am doing our plant lay out that is currently in process.
