Hi there,

this is my first post in this forum. I hope someone can give me a good hint.

I am trying to find failure criteria for woven fabrics on ply-scale. I know about the different failure criteria for UD laminates (Tsai-Wu, Tsai-Hill,...), but I hope there is some research going on that is focused on the behaviour of woven fabrics, especially the behaviour of a single woven ply.

I would be very grateful for some criteria names. If I have the name I should be able to find out how it works in my own.

Thanks!

1) the failure criteria that you list do not work well for UD plies; see several previous discussions on this forum.

2) there has been some research on failure prediction for fabrics and textiles, but like for UD tape the correlations to test data are not that good. Stiffness predictions are better.

3) you should plan to test your material to determine the fabric ply strengths

Hi,

I have just found an interesting paper you mentioned in one of your posts about failure criteria for UD.

"A Comparison of the Predictive Capabilities of Current Failure Theories for Composite Laminates, Judged Against Experimental Evidence"

As this paper also deals with multi-directional laminates, I hope to find some information about woven fabrics. I did not have the time to read it yet, but no matter if current criteria for woven fabrics work well or not, I need to get an overview.

You also mentioned that there has been some research on that issue, but the results were not satisfactory. Do you know who did that research or if there is any paper that describes the work that was done so far?
