i want to know the the difference between work in process and material requirement planning?Iam undergoing a project titled development of automated work in process management sytem for batch processing industry.pl.help me?
recommend some books to refer for WIP(work in process).

MRP is what it will take to make a part
WIP has labor invested in it
example: we will make a large washer from bar stock

the order is for 50 1/4 thick x 4 x 2 flat washers with a key notch in the out side.
50 plus the parting tool = 21.9 " of steel bar + chucking =24"
so yoour MRP would be 24" of 4" Cold roll round bar

now we will put this in a turet lathe where we will drill , bore teh ID and part to length
WE now have work in progress, it has labor added to the cost of the material. after the last process is finnished, and the part is inspected and packed, you have your total cos of production the parts now become inventory.
