Do any of you use Solidworks for wiring assemblies?

We cuurently use solidworks for all our drafting needs, except for wiring diagrams. I would imagine it is possible, but is it really time effective creating BOM, multi wire assemblies and connectors all for 2D?

I have created wiring a lot. Schematics were created in 2D on the dwg. Vision can do this for you also.
If you will do a lot of wiring assy's, I suggest looking into Router from SW.

So most of schematics were done on the drawing only, makes sense. What is Vision?

I have played with Routing a bit, but not enough to get a good handle on it. It seems better suited for hard piping, rather than loose wiring harnesses.

oops! I meant Visio. Router can do wire harnesses.

The router function ctopher is talking about is different than the piping.

Although the router is new and may not have every feature I would want, it can automatically attach point A to B with 3D "solid" wire and you can specify connectors at each end, like a multi-terminal Molex. Then it will create a 2D nail board in the flat with the proper lengths of wires.
