How to use Near/Far option in surface design?
 
The Near/Far command is used to define one of multiple solutions to a previous operation, based on which solution is the minimum/maximum distance from a selected object.

For example: intersect a circle with a line, and the result will be two points. To define only one point, a NEAR command is used to define the point that is the closest to a selected plane.
