IS A WIRE WOUND RESISTOR PREFERRABLE (INSTEAD OF METAL FILM OR CARBON TYPE) IN AN AC CLUTCH COIL CIRCUIT? WHY?

I can answer that from an electronic circuit point of view.  Wire wound resistors have a higher wattage rating (ability to dissipate heat or change electrical to heat energy) which in turn allows higher voltages and amperages to be reduced.
