I am trying to figure out the easiest way to add cables and wires to my assemblies (Autodesk Inventor). I'm not that familiar with the 3-D sketch tool yet, but I imagine that is the way to go; maybe by extruding along a 3-D path? Only I'm not sure how to define the path that I want to extrude along.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Create your path either with a series of workpoints created on 2d planes or by sketching segments of the path on 2d planes. Once you have the points that you need use the 3D sketch tool to link the various point or paths together in one 3d sketch. Then sweep a profile along the path (not extrude). Check out and look at the hints and tutorials section. There is some good info there. Also at

Autodesk will have an add-in wiring module for Inventor around August. I've seen the preview, and it is pretty nice.
