Hi! I'm currently seeking for any material related to motion control systems using acceleration sensors/clinometers. The problem is to compensate roll/heave and pitch movement of small vessels during subsea deployment of sensors. Due to my first information this can be done by fast automatic pay-in/out of certain cable length by winch or moving a hydraulic crane jib up and down. Any hint's concerning publications or further contacts about motion control systems and related control software are very welcome.

There is a type of motor controller called a Vector Drive that uses current feedback to produce a constant tension electric winch. I'm not sure if it would work for your application, but check with your local motor controller vendors, one of them will have more info.

There is a winch control available that takes into account both wire length and winch tension. if you need any more info, you can email me: brian_leslie@dol.ie

The program is widely used in the fishing industry for AutoTrawl systems, and is available for electric, and hydraulic winches. The constant tension aspect is only a small part of the software.

in the oil drilling industry, they are using motion compensating drawworks (winches) to maintain constant weight on the drill bit. The philosophy is concerned with VARIBLE FREQUENCY MOTORS and is well proven. I have no great experience of this, but maybe it wil point you in the right direction of research.
