Does anyone know why DOD-L-85645A LUBRICANT, DRY FILM, MOLECULAR BONDED was deactivated for new design more than 10 years ago? Is there a new process to replace it? This process called "dicronite" and there are other companies who has similar product.

israelkk,

Take a look at AMS2530. I believe that is the superseding spec.

The custodianship of MIL-SPEC's has been turned over to private groups like the SAE. The feds didn't want to bear the cost of maintaining them any longer.

In this case they always refer the user to a replacement spec such as AMS, ASTM, etc. I suspect there is another reason then just saving the cost of maintaining.
