whitemetal and US Legisation? 1

I have been told that planned or implemented Legisation in US forbid or will forbid the use of Whitemetal bearings in fields like sterntube bearings or rudder bearings.
However I have not been able to find any info.
Can anybody help me??

I have not heard of this. If true, the only reason I can think of (to legislate out the use of white metal for stern tube & rudder bearings) is to reduce (1) the risk of marine pollution from lubricating oil leaks resulting from failed stern tube seals, (2)highly toxic to marine life tin & lead compounds that can make up white metal. (2)is a bit of a stretch and there are alternative oil lubricated bearings instead of white metal bearings and they eliminate tin & lead, but not oil. I suspect that if there comes legislation that you describe it will be aimed at all oil lubricated bearings rather than only white metal.
