With 2006 now available, I feel that it is time to ask about something that has been lurking in the back of my mind for some time now. From reading the forums, I have gotten the impression that the thing to do when upgrading to a new release is wipe out the old version and do a clean install of the new release. (After testing and backing up the appropriate files.)
However, I am not sure what the best thing to do with the toolbox is. We have multiple users accessing a shared toolbox on the server. What I have done in the past was point the installer to the shared directory and let it do what it wants.
This seems to contradict the fresh install concept. I would try clearing out the share and letting the installer work with an empty directory; however my understanding is that when a specific fastener is used for the first time, it is instantiated in the toolbox part file. I suspect that it will break the assemblies that reference these fasteners if I try a fresh install of the toolbox.
So after all of that, my question is what is the best thing to do with the toolbox when upgrading?
Thanks,
Eric
