I represent the client (I work inside a plant) and I review civil drawings for approval.
These drawings and calculations are done by consulting engineers.
What is this note again to lessen client liability when you "review" drawings but not really "approve" it.
I don't even get the calculation of these drawings.

Perhaps you are looking for the phrase "Reviewed for Information Only". I am not sure if that lessens your liability, but it sounds like what you were reaching for.

Also, maybe find someone who CAN review the calculations. You never know what kind of assumptions were made or the implications of any assumptions.

I will usually add something along the lines of "Reviewed for general conformance with the project intent. No design or coordination review has been completed."

For shop drawing reviews I have the following stamp, 'no exceptions taken' is maybe what you are after when everything is ok based on your limited checks + some text around what you have or have not checked to make you feel better.

Yes, no exceptions taken. Can you explain more what it means. I will ask to have this stamp instead of approval stamp.

I take 'no exceptions taken' to mean :-
Based on my limited checks and sometimes limited understanding of what is going on as the engineer that I did not note anything that needed to be addressed, I still reserve the right to blame you as the contractor for screwing something up which has not been discovered yet (and its only a matter of time before this occurs, 99% guaranteed).

The contractor will interpret anything you say as implying 'approval' (99% guaranteed), so its all your fault usually from their perspective!
