what is the scale along the bottom?

I have a deflection and it is viewed as different colours along the deflected shape - what is the colour scale along the bottom measured in? At the maximum deflection of my part the red colour on the bottom scale says 1124. There is no way that the deflection should be 1124mm. Any ideas?

The "scale along the bottom" as you've put it, known as the "contour legend", depends on what you're plotting, which is not stated in your post. You say "deflection" but that's meaningless per se. Whatever you're plotting, the units will be in the unit system you've developed your model in. For instance, if you're plotting nodal DISPLACEMENT in the global X-direction (command "plnsol,u,x" seen as "UX" in the contour legend key), then the contours represent min to max displacement in terms of your model LENGTH units.
