My subcontractor told me that after treating our parts, they clean them in EVA. It supposedly is a bath of some sort, and they won't tell me what it is. Has anyone of you heard of a chemical compound, liquid or solution with this acronym or initials?

Thanks Guidoo, as a matter of fact I misquoted my subcontractor. They told me that they applied a thin layer of EVA as a protection, but I thought the answer was bogus, just to protect their know-how. Do you think that EVA can be applied in very thin layers (around 1 micrometer) by immersion?

Gciriani,

I can't help you with your question whether EVA can be applied in very thin layers by immersion. Maybe you should start a new thread for this new question.

I think EVA & PVA are similar in that they are commonly used in the fibreglass industry to provide a thin protective barrier between the mould and the resin. It is used in addition to release wax. They are soluble in acetone some other fast drying solvents and somewhat soluble in water. Coating can be sprayed, brushed or dipped.
I have never measured the film thickness but would estimate 0.0005"
