Client pipe specification gives options to use smls pipe or ewf pipe. should the fittings be specified as the pipe? Can smls pipe be welded to efw pipe? Can smls fittings be welded to efw pipe? and vice versa?

1) Generally, if pipe may be either, fitting may be either as well, since Code calcs are usually based on calculating the pipe and assuming the fitting is equal. But a client spec may dictate otherwise
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) Yes

Only large diameter fittings are welded but agree with xl83nl. Makes no difference.

Once the joint quality factor, Ej, is considered for the welded pipe thickness design, it should be fine to be used in connecting with the SMLS pipe. Or, may need to verify any potential process safety risk to use the welded pipe vs SMLS pipe, if needed.
