Will a PQR qualified using API 5L X42 (P1,G1) to A860 WPHY 42 (unassigned material) support a WPS for API 5L X52 to A860 WPHY 52? The API 5L X42 and API 5L X52 have the same P-number and Group-number. I am not familiar with the A860 WPHY fittings. Does the base metals qualified list in QW-424.1 apply to this application?

Thank you

For unassigned materials, you need to qualify the unassigned material if using ASME Section IX guidelines. ASTM A 860 refers to wrought, high strength steel material so you will need to qualify based on the specific grade of steel.

metengr,

Thank you for the quick reply. I am using ASME Section IX guidelines. Since my post I bought the ASTM specification for A860 and it states in the scope that it covers wrought fittings for both ASME B16.9 and MSS-SP-75. Does this mean that the specification number A860 and MSS SP-75 can be used interchangeably? The reason I ask, MSS SP-75 is listed as P1, G1 in QW-422 for the grades I am using.

Thank you again for your guidance.

C2012;
Ok, I think I may have found an out for you. Look at Section IX, Nonmandatory Appendix D P-No Listing, the following grades are listed as P-No 1, Group 1

1 1 MSS SP-75 WPHY-42
1 1 MSS SP-75 WPHY-46
1 1 MSS SP-75 WPHY-52

These Grades are listed in MSS-SP-75, and apparently can be supplied under A 860. So, using Appendix D you have a P-No listing for your WPS.

metengr,

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate it!
