Dear All,

I have a concern about welder qualification for SA240 TP310S .

Is it possible to qualify a welder in carbon steel and the same qualification covers for SA240 TP310S Material.

Since F no is same for Carbon steel and SS Materiel.

Please advice me.

Thanks in advance

balayanam,
"Is it possible to qualify a welder in carbon steel and the same qualification covers for SA240 TP310S Material."
What was the welding process and what was the filler metal of the original weld test ?
Regards,
DD

If the process is the same, the F number is the same, if the base metal used for the test is one listed by QW-423.1, and if the positions are appropriate as weld as the weld type (groove versus fillet weld): Yes

Best regards - Al

Does that mean you want to do so? Maybe. 310 is fully austenitic and prone to cracking. Some training in the proper techniques may be necessary.

The code lists the minimum requirements that must be met. It is up to the contractor to take what ever additional steps are necessary to ensure the product is safe.

Best regards - Al
