Hi,

When calling out an intermittent weld, say 4"@12", does that mean there is 12" of space between 4" welds or are the welds @ 12" o.c.?

Blogett's book notes that the 12" is the "distance between centers" which I would think means the 4" weld is 12" o.c.

I have a set of drawings that calls out a 6"@6" weld, hence the question..... Thank you!

If the call-out follows AWS conventions, then it is the pitch, which is more or less equivalent to "between centers".

If course, if the guy that drew the drawing didn't know that...

Is it calling for an offset/staggered intermittent weld? If not, then it's going to be a continuous bead if the numbers are actually 6"@6". Either way, I'd sooner call and double check unless standard symbols were used.

Could the drawing be using ISO welding symbols? If so, the 6@6 would be a 6" weld with 6" in-between the welds. However, with ISO symbols, they should also be calling out the number of welds as well.
