Hi all,

I have used a weld element to join dissimilar meshes together. The weld element works well for linear static analysis but badly for nonlinear static analysis. The surfaces of the weld element slide when analysis type is nonlinear static.

How is it possible?

Try increasing the SFACT value on the BSCONP entry in the nastran bulk data file or in FEMAP under the contact property.

I tried to increase SFACT value. It helps in some cases, some cases not.

I made a test model from the cantilever beam. I cut the beam and connect the cut ends (surfaces) together by the weld element (penetration type = 3). There was a load at the end of the beam. The load caused the shearing force in the connection. Other end was fixed.

Results: Connection was sliding. I changed the value of the SFACT -> no effect.
