I am working on a small one story building with a mezzanine floor in Seismic Zone 4 (2001 CBC). Since I don't have much choice about the framing location, I have opted to use OMF in both directions which will allow me to frame use a moment connection at the weak axis of the column. Can anyone suggest any reference or provide advice on the design of such weak axis connections?

EBF,

I have not heard or seen any evidence of weak axis fracture with pre-Northridge MF connection (evaluated nearly 50 SMF buildings). I have utilized same in many structures since Northridge. After Northridge event, many things were thrown against the wall as causes or problems and many are still sticking including the concern for weak axis failures but the facts continue to show this shouldn't be considered a problem. I guess when legend becomes fact, print the legend holds true in this case.
