We have a residential complex of apartment towers. The tower is 60 meters high. Close to the complex is a house for diesel generators. We want to get rid of the exhaust gases that affect the nearby apartments. Is it possible to raise the exhaust pipes and support them with an steel structure to a higher height than the towers to get rid of this problem? Is there a way to calculate the increased diameter of the exhaust pipes to avoid suffocation of generators?

But first you need to know max engine back pressure allowed. That's manufacturer driven and often is quite low so for 60m you might need quite a large pipe.

Make sure you allow a drain somewhere at the bottom or tee which you can drain off to stop condensation running back into the engine.

Also your exhaust may steam for a long time when you start the generator and many will thinks it is smoke.

It also gets pretty hot so expands a lot and will discolour.
