We have a 30" B16.47 std blind flange as top cover of a vertical vessel. On this flange a 2" hole to be drilled centrally to fix a nozzle on it. Can we proceed with a standard flange without doing an Appendix -2 calculation.

I don’t t think so. In B16.5, table 6 details the possibilities for this. As I’m not familiar with B16.47 my first idea would be to look for a similar table (ie similar as table 6 in B16.5), but I wasn’t able to find one in B16.47.
Maybe others can concur or prove the opposite, but I guess it’s a no.

I can't find anything similar either.

All the previous posts relate to B16.5 flanges.

I think you're going to need to do an ASME VIII App 2 calculation.

Well I thought I had made a reply earlier, it must have gotten lost in the ozone :)

Anyway, more like UG-34 / UG-39 rather than Apx 2.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Afterthought: May be a candidate for exemption per UG-36(c)(3).
