Hello,

I am new to the engineering field, graduated in Dec. 2012, and I am in charge of designing a watertight doorway with a very low level of water pressure. Max depth the door will be submerged is about 15 ft. My question is, how do I analyze the seal to ensure I have the correct number locking hinges at the correct spacing with the correct force to maintain the seal.

No one where I work has had to do a seal where it had to be watertight, some leakage was always acceptable. In certain cases very high rates were okay.

Where would I go to find the information I need? I know the seals x amount of force per foot but deflection of the door and seal will come into play as well as the moment from the bottom and top of the doorway.

Any advice?

This is my first post so if I have posted this in the wrong section I apologize.
