does anyone know a website were I can get information about the different types of filters used in the water treatment industry (preferably filters other than sand filters)

There is a document from California Dept. of Health Services on filtration technology. Perhpas you may be able to make use of it.

Did you also look under American Water Works Assoc. at

They may present other information of filtering system for drinking water.
