I am looking for information on water testing requirements to be done for an industrial hot water heating system? If any one has information on where I can find guidelines for chemical addition and or typical hot water heating chemistry program plus typical water testing done on such a system.

Thank you

Are you looking for water to heat with or hot water which would come out of a faucet?

The hot water system is used for building heating in a pork production plant.

Assuming the system is completely closed, you would want to soften the water so you don't have to deal with scaling issues and then dope it with a corrosion inhibitor. Sodium nitrite (NaNO2) is common though others may be used. Check with one of the chemical treatment companies for a complete package.

cub3bead,

Thank you for the information. If the make up water is not softened what would be a suitable chemical program to follow with low amounts of make up? Also I will be talking to a chemical company regarding this but I would like to have as much info. prior as possible

Thank you

The problem with not softening the water is deposition of calcium carbonate on the heat exchange surfaces which will reduce heat transfer efficiency. With a low makeup system such as this you will determine which is the best route to go. Please bear in mind that the calcium carbonate scaling is temperature driven.

In this mode you will likely need a scale inhibitor and dispersant.

You are going to have to make the call after visiting with your chemical treatment consultant/supplier
