If you're working in solids then make sute that the 'handle' extrusion iscoincident with the joining surface.

Is that gap between the handle and the part required? Are you working with solids or surfaces?

It seems like you need to close that gap...and if the geometry is solid & simple, then you might be able to get away with an easy fix:

Create a Datum Plane perpendicular to the side you need to extend

Then do an Extrude on that new plane and use the existing geometry to create your section sketch.

However, if you're working with surfaces, you might need to take a different approach.

Neuronex, you got my point (sorry for using the non-technical vocab,
though). However, i used kenppy's approach. Nevertheless, I feel greatly
benefitted from neuronex's answer for it has added to my intellect

Actually this one is a sweep feature. Sweep command asks you in the
starting of the procedure whether to merge or not. I just found it out.
