Von Mises, Tresca stress interpretation.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions or advice on how to interpret the Von Mises or Tresca stress chart when running an FEA in Mechanical Desktop 6.0? I've got a lot of pretty colors and numbers, but have little to no idea what they mean or what they represent. Any help would be awesome! THANX!!
