VOLUME OF ELLIPTICLE SHAPED DOME

New Pro/E user


I have an ellipticle shaped dome made from 10ga material. I am trying to get the volume but I'm unable to uunderstand the steps in Pro/E to get this information. Any help would be great.

My way of dealing with this would be to firstly find the volume of the shell. You can do this simply under mass properties. Then to find the volume enclosed by the 'cavity' of your dome - solidify the volume by firt making a 'fill' surface over the opening and then use 'Edit' > 'Solidify'. The volume enclose by the dome will be the second vloume minus the first. You could make a family table part of the solidified part and make a relation (if you have Behavioural Modelling extension) under user-defined relaitions to maintain a parameter.

Another option is to create a copy of the dome part, make it into a solid, assemble it to the dome part (on top of each other), then perform an assembly "cut out". Do thisby selecting "Edit"-"ComponentOperations" and then choose "Cut Out", then follow the hints in the window. Your second, solid part will have the volume of the dome removed from it. This "volume" part will also change as the dome part changes, so it will always be current. You can, of course, perform any measurement you wish on this new, "volume" part. This technique is great for CFD work when you need to create the flow domain quickly, easily and have it always update to changes made to the real, "solid" parts.
