vision system to inspect threaded holes

Does anybody have experience inspecting threaded hole positions with a vision system? True position of a threaded hole is based on pitch cylinder, which cannot be inspected with vision.

Also, is there a good method of checking threaded sizes for high production parts with tapped holes?
