Does anyone have any experience calculating the sediment trapping efficiency of vegetated filter strips (vfs)? I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find any information on it - all I can find is pollutant removal. Any books/online sources would be great. Thanks

I believe sediment is considered a pollutant and likely one of the easiest to remove. Try to google "sediment removal efficiency vegetated filter strip."

You should get plenty of hits. This one in particular lists sediment removal percentages based on varying conditions.

My former co-major professor for my PhD work was John Parsons at NCSU (co-professor as it was a dual PhD program). John passed away a couple years back. He and another professor (Carpena at UFL) developed VFSMOD (Vegetative Filter Strip Modeling System). You can download it for free from " VFSMOD is an excellent tool for what you describe. The associated documentation and references will probably also be very helpful.
