Hello,

Does anyone know if the Equivalent Capacity Coefficients for Simple Spans provided in VDOT IIM-S&B-86 can be used to get the rating factor for Legal & Permit loads from HL-93 rating factor using LRFR method? Also, is there a way to get the tonnage value from rating factor? VDOT "Load Rating Summary Form For Structures" requires tonnage value for Legal, Permit & SH Vehicles. I am totally new to this subject and have been trying to do manual calculations using LRFR method. Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Thank you

I'm not familiar with VDoT standards; regarding the second part of your question: Divide your truck weight in pounds by 2000 and multiply by the rating factor to get the tonnage rating. Refer to AASHTO's "The Bridge Evaluation Manual, 2nd Ed." Section 6A.4.4.4. It will tell you the same thing. However, it also explains what to do if you have a controlling rating that contains lane load.
