I am working in NX-6 integrated with TCE. Currently we are managing Top level assemblies through arrangements and layers. Sometimes this leads fail to load assembly in NX due to large file size since all sub assy and parts are added in one file. Now we are asked to use Varaint configuration in TCE for better BOM and assembly management. Does anybody is have ideas on this??

There are high number of top level variants (assemblies) some of them exceeding 500 unique variants (assemblies). Each assemblies will have on average 700 to 800 parts.

The assembly size you have really shouldn't be an issue with NX.
What happens when the assembly fails ?
Do you get an error message ?

Hi jerry,

We dont get error message for every assembly may be which are large in size. "memory voilation" error message will get. The purpose of variant configuration is to streamline the BOM process which is currently managed in multiple levels. Like Engineering BOM and Manufacturing BOM are different. This leads in errors and redundant data entry.

It is really hard tp say for sure that the "memory violation" error is associated to the way the assembly loads.

Are you running 64 bit or 32?? What are your assemnly load options set to?

Look like this discussion going in other way. What I intended is implementing variant configuration in TCE structure manager for BOM configuration. Currently all top level BOM’s are managed Indi-dually in TCE; after engineer creating the top level assembly the downstream creates variants may around more than 200 separately. This leads time consuming and redundant work. In order avoid this activity variant configuration comes in where all top level variants can be configured in Single generic BOM structure.
For ex: when you opted for car with petrol option it subtract all diesel components in it and gives BOM for petrol option.
if anybody have on idea on variant option, option default, rules check?

We are looking into this also. We are worried of keeping the rules sustained with our smart part number configurator, as our product evolves and moves into and through production. We have product that has 150 parts or so. But these parts can be added, removed and reoriented in different orientation to get different assembly part numbers. We have a smart assembly number configuration if you will. So if you choose an "x" for the first letter This mean you get a special housing with an endcap rotated for a clockwise input. We have looked into but is promising

Yesterday i was at an NX User Group meeting, and one person talked about NX assembly load options with TC, I guess it is much more involved that I previously thought

I really don't see how changing the load options will help you here
but I could be wrong
