The common ferro alloys like ferro manganese, ferro silicon and ferro chrome have performed the vanishing act. The prices have increased nearly 2.5 times and yet are not available at those prices. Is this peculiar to India or is a similar experience being felt else where?

(A rant : China sells steel castings at about 1045 USD/ton for 1045 grade castings. )

Unfortunately, this problem is everywhere. Demand is high, so prices are high. Until industry takes the next down turn they will remain expensive (and possibly after that if China demand remains strong).

The latest rumours doing the rounds is that China has asked all its polluting industries to stop operations for a while. This is n view ofthe Summer Olympics scheduled next month. They do not want to have high levels of pollution seen by visiting countries.

It would be relief if it were a fab shop, but it sounds like they're shutting down a mill, which would drive supply down even further.

Thanks for the link. I have been informed today that China has ordered nearly 2/3 of vehicles off the road. This is to reduce pollution and congestion. The many joys of Communism! which G W Bush only can admire and appreciate!
