Hi,

Anybody having experience in selecting trim materials for Ball Valves? Specified was 17-4PH for Ball Valves in a non sour hydrocarbon gas application (high pressure class 2500#).

Fabricator have valves assembled with F6 internals (13% Cr.)

As far as we know is 17-4PH a better material with respect to corrosion as well as strength.

Any recommendations/suggestions would be more than welcome and of course very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
FKE

Specification of valve trim is normally the province of the Owner or Engineer based on service conditions and often based on experience. AMSE B31.3 places most responsibility on the Owner. 17-4PH would normally be considered a step up in metallurgy over 13 Cr (410 S.S.) trim. The present 13 Cr trim valves should be rejected as not meeting the specified criteria. Based on the actual service conditions, you may wish to ask your customer for a concession, which he may or may not grant or may grant with stipulations.

FKE,
also take a look at "Valve Engineering Forum" within this site: Forum408.

Hope this helps, 'NGL
