Vacuum Heat Treatment

I have a requirement to vacuum heat treat a material. Since this is a casting with at least 0.100" of material removal before finished dimensions is it ok to heat treat in an inert atmosphere?

If I specified vacuum heat treat on a drawing, and you gave me parts that were treated in an "inert atmosphere", you'd eat the cost and give me new parts. The only right answer is ask your customer...
