Hello Everyone,

Is there any governing Thickness to consider full radiography when butt welding two different thickness together?? please find attached case where 36mm dishend(MOC SA 516 Gr 60) is butt welded(SF to Shell) to 32 mm shell(MOC SA 516 Gr 60). AS per table UCS-57 p.no 1 if the thinner plate at welded joint exceed 32 than full radiography is mandatory. So in this case PV Elite result with mandatory full RT, while Codeware compress result in no radiography required.
so what is governing thickness for considering radiography requirement??

UW-11(a)(2) mention about nominal thickness of 38mm. Does it mean nominal thickness of 38mm is only for exclusive p.no & group than UCS-57???

Thanks.

Hi c8829,

Nominal thickness to be considered for determining Radiography requirement is defined in Code para UW-11(g).
I have reproduced the Code paragraph hereunder :

So, for your case, the nominal thickness is 32mm.
As per UCS-57, nominal thickness above 32mm shall mandatorily require full radiography. However, for the case under consideration, nominal thickness does not exceed 32mm. Hence, Full RT is not mandatory.

Use software only for calculation, not for NDT
