Using solid surface to create membranes

Hi,

Is there any way to use a surface from a solid part to create membrane elements without having to write an input-file from scratch? The reason is that my analysis file with a user-element doesn't seem to work when creating a second part of only membranes and then using the tie-constraint on the surfaces.
