1st question
Okay I picked up a logitech trackball marble mouse real cheap and was hoping I could use the ball part as a left handed mouse to rotate my model. Similiar to what some of you guys use the spaceball I think. I want to keep my regular mouse on the right hand and spin the model with my left hand without having to push the rotate button and hold.

I tried searching the forum and playing with the windows setups to no avail. Any of you guys have some tips. I tried running an api but I didn't know what I was doing.

Both mouse are working they are just both controlling the pointer.

I appreciate any tips in advance.

2nd Question
Would going to XP Pro from 2000 improve my system any in Solidworks. Typically our assemblies will run about 1000 unigue parts.

Q1) Can't help with this ... but I think you are asking for trouble trying to do that. Unless you can find suitable drivers, it will probably make your system unstable.

Q2) I don't think going to XP will help SW performance any ... unless you intend to max out on RAM & use the 3GB switch. However, bear in mind that SW07 will not support Windows 2000 or lower, so you should consider upgrading soon.
More RAM & a better graphics card will give the better value where SW performance is concerned.

I wonder, if one could use a trackball as a spaceball why would spaceball be so expensive?

Q1 - YOu cannot do this with a trackball. I have one of those trackballs and once you get used to them, I think you would like it. But you can't use it as Spaceball. I think netshop1 hit the nail on the head for this question.

Q2 - After SW06 windows 2000 will not be supported. By going to XP you are at least not going to have to upgrade for awhile, but I don't think it will improve anything.
