Hey civils!
Anyone have experience with the USGS and the functionality of their gauging stations? This question is in reference to a discussion on another forum here, link below. How is volumetric flow measured once the river goes out of its banks? I am assuming a width factor is used to determine hydraulic area, but doesn't that become affected when the river goes out of its banks? Is a bubbler used to determine depth? if so, can it be affected by entrained air? What are other dynamic factors that can affect a gauging station's accuracy?
