I just updated to 2005 sp3. SW site said to also get the new help files. I unzipped them, but now what? Should I unzip them in a particular way so they find their proper places, or do I just need to find the old equivalents and manually move them? I see nothing on the site about how to "install" these files.

Unzip them to:
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english

I haven't checked this particular release, but I unzipped all the files directly into the SW directory (C:program Files\SolidWorks\).

It will ask if you want to overwrite existing files. Choose Yes. That's it.

You're right. The instructions are missing and a quick check in the SP FAQ and Installation pages yielded nothing either.

I've had success unzipping directly into my root installation directory. It found the files and replaced them by unzipping into the root.

Thank you Jeff,
Looks like your right. I searched for the files that were unzipped from “swHelpEnglish.zip”. They were in “C:\Program Files\SolidWorks”.
I did an unzip and they all went to the right places. Some went to C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english. I did a yes to replace.
“C:\Program Files\SolidWorks” is a better directory to unzip too.
A star for you.
Thank you again.

I can't believe how many times this has been coming up. I get a call or an email 3-4 times a week about this... did no one ever update their help? That's scary!!

I think they should turn this into a winzip Executable and I voiced that opinion to them.... ER guys turn that in if you want it to be more automatic, since everything else is.

To solve your problem unzip them and drag them to the top level solid works file. The update files contain other updates than just lang. such as mold flow, etc. If you just dump them all into Solidworks everything up dates fine

Any particular reason this can't be part of the service pack...?

Look at the file size of the help... that included with the SP would make it larger to DL. - They should make it executable zip file.
