I sent this thread-link to the organization in Wichita KS that has one-of-two flying B-29s remaining: 'Doc'.

I suggested it would be fun to have this bird posed next-to Doc on the ground... and maybe even fly together, too!

Hey I wonder if the builder has thought of a name for this bird?

I'd've thought this would be much slower than a full size B29 ?

You are probably correct... however the B-29 Doc is a lumbering-rumbling giant when it flies over head. So, maybe not too mismatched?

I don't think B29s were particularly fast. Google says cruise @ 190kn and stall at 105kn. Not sure what this dude is using for power but 130kn or whatever seems like it might be in range?

First Flight! Seems to fly very nicely... and has the power to perform!

Whole story to-date... Looks like there was a collision with a golf cart on the runway... so that mess has to be resolved...

Just the 1st flight video [sans collision]...

It might take some experimenting to get it right, but I suspect if the RC plane was thousands of feet below the real plane, there should be a few moments of harmony where the perspective makes them both look about the same size, and if caught at the right time, the speed difference won't be obvious. Of course in a video versus a photo, the speed difference will eventually show.

Debodine... 'RC'... kidding right?

This is a homebuilt AIRCRAFT with 2-seats in tandem... pilot and one-passenger [directly behind the pilot].

I made an off-handed suggestion they should incorporate at least [1] openable cockpit window or hatch so they could stick an arm, and/or a flag, OUTSIDE to wave to the on-lookers... validating that it is in-fact a manned aircraft... NOT a giant RC model.

We're at the point now where we could CGI this entire thing. It's a good thing the CGI artists don't have a good feeling for physics so there are some usually tells involving the way objects accelerate.

The fact that it hit a golf cart and they've made every effort to cover that up makes it clear that this is intended for human flight.

Concur, Tug... but that plane looks like it has disproportionally longer and 'flimsy' wings... and what appears to be a really large body... I'm almost surprised that they work.

I'd guess that that plane is made primarily of plastic composites. With the Honda Fit engines it seems fitting they would build it it just like wind turbine blades. [pipe] Dedicated to less carbon emissions.

Wil, good catch...I completely missed the pilot compartment. I had been reading several articles outside of Eng-Tips about RC and still had it stuck in my brain, I guess.

Tug... No/Yes to composites... KISS

The Primary structure is a ~80% conventionally riveted/fastened aluminum. Curiously, lots of internal structural details appears to be composites... such as frames, brackets, etc...

Yes Secondary structure... which is a smaller percentage of 'everything', but especially complex/compound-curvature parts... is ~90% composites.

Looks like epoxy-carbon fiber is the predominate 'composite material'... hand laid-up/pressed-down without vacuum bagging. Curious to know how the parts 'endure and comingle' with the aluminum... which is highly dissimilar to aluminum alloys... and especially aluminum rivets.
